Oh Vanity

I feel silly even posting this. Being a blogger is weird sometimes.

Anyway.

I bought a maxi dress. And I think I like it. But it is not in my normal fashion comfort zone. So naturally I took pictures. And I want your opinion. The tags are still on the dress, in case it looks awful and I need to take it back. Tell me what you think. Be honest. But not mean. Thanks for indulging me.

Oh, and I know the belt is not right, but it is the only one I have. If the belted look is more flattering I will get a darker belt, probably braided.

If it matters, I think I like it better with the belt. But so far my Twitter friends like it better without.

This whole post is so ridiculous.

  1. I think it's cute, but if you aren't comfortable in it then you probably won't wear it. At least that is my experience.

  2. I agree you have to be comfortable in it or you will just hang it up and stare at it. I think a dark thinner belt would be adorable. I love it. Love the color on you.

  3. It is not ridiculous! I like it better without the belt but both are pretty. And I really like the dress. I prefer maxi dresses personally but that is sheer laziness! They enable me to skip shaving my legs! (Now that you know that I may have to kill you! I'll let you know!)

  4. You know I don't think it's ridiculous. But yeah, it is kinda funny what we blog about sometimes, isnt' it? ;)

  5. I like it belted I think, just for a bit of shape, but you can definitely wear it both ways and it will look super cute. It took me a while to *see* the versatility in these type dresses but with a cardigan or denim jacket you can almost wear them year round here in TX.

I don't think it's vain, silly or ridiculous.

However I've posted about red lipstick twice in the past two days, so take me with a grain of salt. :)

  6. I like the belt. From my own experience, I once bought a maxi dress. It hung in my closet for over a year, then I got brave and wore it fell in love. Then the strap broke, so to the point. Rock it with your bad self.

  7. It's a cute dress and it looks good on you both ways. The belted look gives it a more punchy look (although I would get a different kind of belt) but without the belt it is a softer look. Both are cute.

  8. I think it's SO pretty! And brave of you to go out of your comfort zone! Aren't you short, like me? (I'm 5'1".) I feel like I could NEVER pull off a maxi dress but if you can... maybe I can...?

    I don't know.

I love it on you, though, and love the denim jacket idea!

  11. Love this new dress!!! It has been so cool seeing you transform your style so much in the past year. I think the colors of this dress are perfect with your coloring and I love the length. You were smart to pair it with those wedges - very cute.

I vote for the belt. It creates a little more shape and emphasizes your narrow waist - something every outfit should ideally do. I think your thoughts about getting a braided belt are great although I don't mind the lighter shade of the belt you're wearing. I guess if it was a darker belt it would match your shoes but as What Not to Wear has taught me: It does have to MATCH; it just has to GO. A lighter belt would keep the whole look lighter which to me translates to springy. A darker belt with a denim jacket would be cute to dress it up and bit and make it more evening wearable. Sorry this is so long. Fashion is kind of a love of mine and there is nothing I love more than sharing my thoughts about it.

Btw - your arms look amazing.

  12. I agree with Holly - you can wear a cardigan and even belt the cardigan with your dress. I love that color on you! I think if you added a chunky piece of earth-tone jewelry like a necklace (chunkier than the one you have) it will look even better. But yes to the dress and totally yes to the belt. Not that belt, but the braided black.

  13. I second the chunky necklace! :)

  14. I think I like it without the belt, but then, I have a hard time with belts, myself, and may be a bit prejudiced against them. LOL. The dress is cute!
